Bleckley County was formed in 1912, out of an area that was once parts of both Pulaski County and Laurens County. At the time of formation, Bleckley County was the 145th county in Georgia, and was named for Justice Logan E. Bleckley of the Georgia Supreme Court. After serving in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, Bleckley resumed his law practice, served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court for a few more years and was named Chief Justice in 1887, a position he held for almost a decade.
The city of Cochran GA is named for Judge Arthur E. Cochran and was incorporated in late 1800’s. Once known as Dykesboro, Cochran was settled by B. B. Dykes, who owned the original site where the town was built. Judge Cochran was famous for developing this section of middle Georgia, building the area as President of the Macon & Brunswick Railroad, now the Southern Railroad.
